Lyn Dillies, the acclaimed illusionist is turning her magic toward a new mission: inspiring the next generation of voters. With Your Vote Is Magic, Ms. Dillies uses her talent to educate and motivate high school students nationwide to participate in the democratic process. The first and second performances will be at Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High. The first performance will be for students and their families on Friday, October 25, 2024. The second performance is for the general public at 6:30 p.m. the same day in the school auditorium, free of charge.
Your Vote Is Magic blends the wonder of magic with a powerful educational message, aiming to demystify the voting process and show young people that their voices truly matter, driving home the importance of civic engagement.
“Voting is the most powerful form of magic we have in a democracy,” says Dillies. “It’s a way to create change and make your voice heard. I want young people to realize that their vote is not only a right but also a responsibility.”
As the 2024 election season approaches, Ms. Dillies aims to ensure that every young person comprehends the significance of their vote and feels confident in their ability to participate in the democratic process.
The program is offering an essay contest called “What Voting Means to Me” for high school seniors. The winner of the essay contest will be awarded the Calvin Dillies Scholarship, which is named in honor of Ms. Dillies’ late father, who inspired her mission. The scholarship winner will be determined by the League of Women Voters.
