Dr. Daniela Melo spoke to the LWV Southcoast on Thursday, June 20, on elections and voter participation and the role of the local media in voter education. As the Chair of the nonprofit New Bedford Light publication and as professor at Boston College she presented data on the role of the media in encouraging civic participation.  She shared data from the readership of the New Bedford Light and highlighted the importance of local reporting in increasing local engagement, particularly youth engagement.
